anchor text

What is anchor text?

The anchor text is the text with which we link to other pages. The main function of anchor text is to show a brief description of the linked content so that the user can understand and find expanded information on the subject they are reading, providing useful information. It is mainly used in SEO strategies, with the aim of positioning the pages with certain keywords thus creating link building strategies.

Types of Anchor Text

Anchor text is classified by type, based on the text used to link to other content. This categorization allows us to identify artificial link patterns, as well as their naturalness. Before diving deeper into the use of anchor texts, it is necessary to understand the existing types:
  • Branded: is the text in which the domain name itself is used.
  • Money keyword or exact keyword: linked to a word that we want to position on the page to which it is linking.
  • Images: links that are inserted into images. These links use the image alt attribute as the link anchor.
  • Naked link: are those links that use the URL itself as text to link content.
  • Not optimized: anchors that do not provide exact information with the text through which they are linked, but generally provide that information with the text surrounding the link.
    • Example: You can contract digital services on this page.
  • Phrase links: links to more descriptive and longer texts, making them more striking and easier for the user to identify and understand what is being linked.
